Glaucoma
What Is Glaucoma?
/
Glaucoma is a group of related eye disorders that, if left untreated, can cause irreversible damage to your optic nerve and vision. The condition rarely presents immediate symptoms but can lead to vision loss and eventually blindness if left unmanaged.
The Symptoms Know The Warning Signs to Prevent Vision Loss
Open-Angle Glaucoma
The slow onset of this type of glaucoma makes the signs and symptoms difficult to notice. If you notice blind spots in your central or peripheral vision, or if you experience tunnel vision, call your doctor immediately to see if this is being caused by glaucoma.
Angle-Closure Glaucoma
The quick onset of this type makes the symptoms immediately apparent to the patient. Symptoms of this include eye pain, blurred vision, seeing halos around lights, nausea, and headache. Call your doctor immediately as this is considered an emergency.

Glaucoma Treatment Options Non-Surgical and Minimally Invasive
Your glaucoma treatment will depend on the severity of your symptoms. Our doctors can care for most patients with eye drops and prescriptions, but minimally invasive surgery or lasers are necessary in some cases.
Eye Drops
Prescription eye drops are typically the first choice of treatment for glaucoma patients. The eye drops are either prescribed to increase the drainage of the eye or to reduce the production of fluid within the eye. Both are aimed at reducing eye pressure and preventing further optic nerve damage.
Prescription Medications
Sometimes prescription medications will be given to reduce the production of aqueous humor and significantly reduce eye pressure. Eye drops and medication cannot cure glaucoma or the damage that has already occurred to the optic nerve, but they can stop the progression.
Minimally Invasive Surgery
For more severe cases, our eye doctors may recommend a patient undergo a minimally invasive surgery. Which surgery our doctors recommend will depend on the severity of the patient's condition. Our board-certified doctors use sophisticated technology, such as lasers, to help patients manage their glaucoma.
Our team is led by elite eye doctors. Each has earned board certification in their respective disciplines, signifying an advanced level of knowledge and skill as ophthalmologists and optometrists.
